The San Diego Supercomputer Center at the University of California, San Diego, along with two other UCSD entities - Calit2 and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography - are combining forces this month at SC07, one of the leading international conferences on high-performance computing, networking, storage and analysis.
Also joining the partnership for 2007 is the Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL), based at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Under a banner of "Inventing the Future with Cyberinfrastructure," the collaboration is focusing on how teams are created and tools developed for an advanced cyberinfrastructure across all areas of data-intensive scientific research.
"The key to successful cyberinfrastructure is integration," said Fran Berman, director of SDSC. "My colleagues Jason Leigh from EVL, Larry Smarr from Calit2, and John Orcutt from the Center for Earth Observations and Applications at SIO, with myself representing SDSC, will join with our staffs to provide an integrated, one-stop venue for some of the most exciting results and technologies in cyberinfrastructure. We plan to use our joint booth to demonstrate how the future can indeed be invented with cyberinfrastructure."
The annual conference on supercomputing is being held November 11 through 16 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, NV. Visitors to the SDSC/Calit2/SIO/EVL booth (#561) can attend presentations and receive information on a multitude of projects and partnerships currently going on at SDSC.
Following a welcome session and overview of the conference partnership, this year's schedule includes presentations on a wide range of Software Development Cyberinfrastructure (SDCI) and PetaApps projects awarded by the National Science Foundation, as well as overviews presented by researchers with Calit2 and EVL.
In addition, the display booth has been configured to provide simultaneous, on-demand demonstrations of projects throughout the entire conference.
